A picture on FaceBook shows her still intact but poster said they were busy gutting the interior.

After getting it through my thick head I finally understand they're in the business to scrap ships not sell antiques and collectibles.

I guess we should be happy to just see them end up at IMS. You can see them one last time and anyone with a boat can get up close. As we all know many go to far away lands never to be seen again even in pieces. Well unless Selim Sam (spelling most likely wrong) gets us some of his nice Alang photos of some old lakers :)

Name boards should go to former captains or crew members or owners and company men. If any of them didn't want it, no one else deserves to get one regardless how awesome they are. More of a respect thing IMHO. Nothing makes me more ticked then people just taking stuff for craps a giggles not knowing the true meaning it had to some.

Sorry for rant

Don't be sorry for the rant. I've been known to do the same thing from time to time.

I was only kidding.

I believe that IMS has in the past sold artifacts from scrapped vessels such as portholes, etc. Although many of the artifacts have been stripped before the vessel went to scrap, but I did notice the nameboards are still in place and I'm sure they would be worth something as a collectible. But as another poster pointed out, there is not practical way to hold a sale to the public aboard ship.

A garage sale-seriously.
This boat is deep in a scrap yard. To even go onboard one would have to climb a 35-40 foot ladder into a boat with no hydro-hence no lights.
Never going to happen and I'm guessing all artifacts have been long removed by the old owners!

Anybody think they'll have a garage sale aboard her?

Being it seems we have a couple Boatnerds near by IMS, some of us would love to see deconstruction progress pictures of the various boats that meet their demise at IMS.

Just a friendly request. : )

Thanx !

I saw that too! It was hard to tell with my binoculars but I was someone raise the flag around 10:15 yesterday AM. Didn't see it again so I don't know when it came down.

Given that she's about to become extinct, perhaps a photo op?

Something strange that is driving me crazy. I saw the Townsend from across the canal several times on Wesdnesday and again on Thursday. On Wednesday, there were no flags flying. On Thursday morning, the ILM flag was flying from her forward mast. When I looked again at around 2PM, the flag was gone. What's up with that?

As with everyone else, she's definitely back in Muskegon as I saw her firsthand on the St. Clair River Tuesday morning going unbound for Muskegon. Hope that this helps.
