Today's rant:
When I left the newspaper business in 2009, the latest buzz phrase was "Mistakes are inevitable and can be corrected." I can only imagine what is is like now. Of course someone has to care enough to point out the mistake, and someone else has to care enough to fix the mistake. News organizations have been cut to the bone for maximum profits and the people who might have caught such mistakes are long gone. Now it is all about how fast you get something on line or on air, and how many clicks it gets, not on whether or not it is accurate. It seems like "mostly right" is good enough nowadays. I don't blame the people who make the mistakes as much as I do their corporate honchos who have cut, cut, cut making the quality of the coverage decline.
