Denny I believe you are right in that assessment. I do remember reports that they had taken some parts off her.

With the talk about possible Algoma scrapings I was wondering if any of the former ASC steamers both the American Valor or Victory have been stripped of any parts? Granted we know both would need 5 years done on them before they could sail again. However unless I’m wrong here, at one time I thought I read that the Valor was being stripped of some of its parts and machineries and even parts of the unloading boom itself maybe motors or stuff were also being stripped? Okay maybe I got her mixed up with the Fortitude that was scrapped a few years back but I’m sure I once read that the Valor was being stripped. Just wondering and curious is all. Anyone else hear or know the same? Thanks in advance.

If Algoma can keep the Algorail going as well as the 2 new Equinox 650's and the Algoma Buffalo they may be able to put the final squeeze on Lower Lakes!

Algoma couldn't do it when they had 3 650's running steady and ULS with 2 more, why now?

And the Algoway could be stripped as a source of engine parts in the meantime. I believe they have the same main propulsion system.

Paint has never saved any ship from the scrapyard.

Algolake, Algosteel and Olympic are all schedule to end up in Montreal come spring time, the other hulls mentioned are probably too weak to make it across.

I'm not sure whether the Algorail's survey is expired or not. I heard a rumor that it might run this year, but with the purchase of the Buffalo I doubt it. At the very least, if it has a good certificate, I can see Algoma holding onto it for now. If it goes for scrap, then obviously they're done with it.

The Algolake retirement report seemed to come out of nowhere at the end of the season. Given she was repainted in drydock in Sturgeon Bay just three years ago I am skeptical. A lay-up in Montreal does not always mean retirement.

Don’t forget the Algolake as well! They were supposed to lay up this winter in Montreal but ended up in Valleyfield. I would imagine though come Spring at least, they will arrive in Montreal then wait for a tug and tow for overseas scrapping. The Algosteel and the Algoma Olympic as was mentioned earlier by another poster, will probably end up going overseas for scrapping and the Algoway as was also mentioned earlier by another poster will probably head to Port Colborne for scrapping come Spring. Another that has not been mentioned much is Algorail which did not run at all in 2017 and stayed in Goderich all season long laid up. Anyone hear or know where she may end up for scrapping at? My guess would be at IMS in Port Colborne but, will they tow out the Algoway first and scrap her then later do the Algorail afterward? If there is anyone who has information on this, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Algoway was supposed to lay-up at IMS in Port Colborne this winter for scrapping, but she had engine problems and laid up in Goderich instead. So I assume once Spring hits, she will be towed to IMS.

The rest I would guess will head overseas. Olympic was supposed to lay up in Montreal but had to turn around. When Spring comes she will probably go there and await a tow. Algosteel will probably lay up in Goderich, then load salt for the Seaway and head to Montreal to await a tow as well.

Thanks in advance.
