Totally agree with you there Bookworm as if I ended up showing a photo of myself, then I would have to either leave the country then or else go into the "Witness Protection Program and then end up having my name changed as well LOL!" Sorry to say No can do as you won't see any pictures of me here anytime in the forseeable future. Just to keep everyone updated on the stories though, I am anticipating a very busy schedule for the next couple of weeks yet again with lots of appointments so I can't say for certain or make any guarantees when the next stories will be out and published on here? Asking all once again for your patience and when I can find time, more stories will come. I have one and to my good friend Dan McNeil, you will love this story as it is about your Aunt Shirley. I don't know if you ever heard the story from her about the time that a Seagull up at the Soo "took and swallowed one of my ear plugs." That story is a classic and you will all die laughing when you read and hear that story sometime and bust out with tears from laughing so hard. Sorry I can't recall what ship or boat it was when it happened though. Just hang in there folks as the stories are coming soon. Wish I had a secretary to type all these stories for me as they would get done faster. Anyone know where I can find and apply for a secretary to help on these stories for you LOL!

Hey Denny,
I have really enjoyed all of you're stories that you have posted. Sorry i haven't been able to reply to them right away. I've been busy with family stuff as well as housr training our new yellow Labrador Retriever puppy that's 3mo old. We also have a 11mo old Labrador Retriever/Bordacollie Mix as well and my 9yr old daughter too. So I've been quite busy also I've had my usual share of Dr. Appointments as well.
I'm glad none of you're expensive equipment was damaged by the rain you got caught in. Sucks that the photos didn't turn out but in the end those are cheaper to replace then you're camera and everything. I went threw a couple cameras myself as a teenager from trying to take photos of the boats in the rain on the Saginaw River. My mother wanted to kill me as well. I know my Uncle would at times take chances with his equipment in the weather if it was a certain boat.
I too love to legacy of the Edmond Fitzgerald shipwreck. It was my favorite wreck reading about growing up as a teenager and even now as im 34yrs old on November 10 i always blow our car horn short 29 blasts for each man who went down on her.
My first time ever camping with my Aunt and Uncle and Cousins at the Soo happened to be when they had that Navy ship that they used to help bring the Bell of the Fitz up. We saw it in Soo Harbor after they had it and saw them dock at the Carbide Dock. I have pictures i took of the bell somewhere. I think you were there with us or in the general area if i remember correctly. I remember getting a ghostly feeling just seeing it in the condition it was in haveing just came from the Fitz days earlier.
Keep up the great work my friend Denny. I look forward to reading your next story when you have time to send it.
Take care and god bless you and you're family Denny.
Dan McNeil

All of your stories, port reports, tracking, layups, salties, and everything else you do for Boatnerd are greatly appreciated. I, for one, have read and saved every one of your port reports, and those from JH & BV, for my home port of Toledo for many years. On the personal side, I’m thinking you aren’t as old as a lot of us. Could you upload a picture of yourself for a face to go to with your effort? Too many times a picture is posted of a favorite contributor only after a passing. Besides yourself, I often wonder what favorites like Bookworm, garbear, Mr Link, Mr Lafferty, Chris M, Dan, and a few others look like. And yes, I would upload my picture back to you.

Just to let everyone know that has been reading and following my stories so far, I forgot to mention that besides a boatnerd along with a ship and boatwatcher I am also a lighthouse buff along with collector of figurines from them as well. Although not into them as much as I am the shipping stuff, I still follow a few lighthouses and have purchased books and different things on them. I don't have any stories really to tell on the lighthouses although I have seen and visited a few of them. Sometime during my story runs, I will give a list of the ones that I have visited in case anyone may be interested and wants to know sometime which lighthouses I have seen, visited and taken photographs of. More stories will be coming soon so stay tuned, keep reading and watching them.

Hi Bob and thanks for reading and replying to my story and glad to see and hear that you liked and enjoyed it. As for your comments about the rain this year, Yes we've had way too much rain and lots of cool days this Spring that's for certain! Unless we see a change in the weather soon, I am predicting this Summer could be much cooler than normal and possibly more rain maybe? Last year's summer I absolutely hated with a passion as it was way too warm and humid as we had a record of 20+ days where it was 90 degrees or hotter and we usually only get 12 I'd say. That was part of why I didn't make it out to the river much last year. As for this year, I've not been up there since April 1st when I caught the John B. Aird on its last trip and got my 2017 KYS books as well. Waiting anxiously for the new Algoma Strongfield to come here as she will be bringing ore soon to Hamilton and then running up here. Can't wait to see her up here! More of my stories will be coming soon. So keep watching for them!

Hi Denny,

I know what you mean about the rain as we've had quite a bit this year, haven't we? Have you gotten out to the river much yet this year?

Denny's 6th Story Rain and Fireworks

In continuing my stories the sixth story in the series and from 1995 as well, will be titled "Rain and Fireworks." After the bell from the Edmund Fitzgerald was pulled up from the wreck on July 4, the very next day on July 5 and ironically my birthday as well they then placed a new bell inscribed with the names of the 29 souls and lost crewmembers of the Fitzgerald back on the wreckage of the ship. On July 4, 1995 during the evening the Soo was due to have their fireworks celebration for Independence Day. At the time, the Quebecois was upbound in the Mac Lock and I was watching her at Locks Park and waiting for the fireworks to begin. You could say that Mother Nature did not like the idea of the Soo having its fireworks show that night. They just barely shot off maybe 3-4 of the fireworks and then the rain came and it just poured cats and dogs and in sheets and buckets that night. Needless to say the firework show got cancelled out and they had to re-schedule them for another night. Like I said in a previous story, at the Soo when it rains up there it pours and never seems to stop whenever it does rain for me at least. Hope you all liked this story as I will have more to come so stay tuned for next stories to come from me soon!
