Hope that everyone so far is liking my stories and that there has been no boredom with the stories so far? Surprised not to see too many replies on my stories from number 4-6 as I would've thought there would be more replies especially with the Fitz Bell Raising story along with the rain on Engineer's Day and Rain on the July 4 fireworks as well. If my memory serves me correctly, I think I got about two more stories maybe to add yet to the 1995 season of stories? Sorry if I am slow at getting these out but, other things are keeping me busy and thus preventing me from getting the stories out quicker and faster than I would like to. The 1996 season will have some good stories for you all as well, that is if and when I ever get to that point! Also the 1997-1999 season of stories will be good as well for you all. The 1990 decade was a great decade for me as far as shipwatching and boatnerding as I had lots of fun and traveling to places with my folks and meeting and talking to people. There are lots of stories to tell from that decade of shipwatching as it was probably the greatest time for me and I enjoyed it always and I hope that you all enjoy the memories also!

No need to worry Howard as fortunately the cameras did not get ruined just a roll of film was all from me being stupid and out in the pouring rain at that time. Luckily a friend of mine who was also at the Soo for Engineer's Day 1995 gave me a few extra photos he had taken from that day so all in all I guess you could say I lucked out and got some photos from the Soo that day afterall but as I said earlier, I learned my lesson as far as going out into the rain with expensive cameras and scanners along with any other items boat related as it just isn't worth it for one photo of a ship in those types of weather condition. To prove my point in 2010 the last year I was at the Soo, the Burns Harbor was up at Mission Point and I really wanted to see her badly! Well guess what? You got it all as it was raining and I stood out there getting wet for some bow shots of her but, did not get any stern photos thanks to the rain but I got lucky as in 2012 I saw her on the St. Clair River in much better and ideal weather conditions. So as I say I learned my lesson back then.

Denny's 4th Story

Well after some much needed downtime and a break the past week or so, time to get back to the story telling once again for all of you. With this story we start the 1995 boat and shipwatching season of stories and in 1995 it was a very rough, challenging and difficult season for me. Well enough said on that, time to move on to the next story for you all. This one involves Engineer's Day 1995 while at the Soo Locks. They say when it rains it pours and for anyone that has been to the Soo long enough and encountered rain there, then you know what I am talking about! Engineer's Day 1995 the weather wasn't the greatest to start off as it was a little foggy and hazy and the ship traffic got held up until around noon or so if I recall correctly? By then, the Herbert C. Jackson along with the Oglebay Norton both were downbound with the Herbie locking down the Mac and the Oglebay Norton in the Poe. Waiting to head up the Poe was the Walter J. McCarthy Jr. At the time things were going pretty good for me but, this is where I also call this story the "Soo Camera jinx!" As the Oglebay Norton pulled out of the Poe, it started raining naturally and perfect timing right? Well it gets worse trust me boatnerds. The rain kept coming down and harder and heavier and I got caught and trapped in it as I stood out in it waiting for the Wally Mac to go into the Poe. Hey it was Engineer's Day and it comes around only once and I didn't want to miss it no matter the weather. Stupid me of course running out in the rain with my camera, scanners and binoculars and definitely Not thinking about the weather I got drenched and soaked in the rain. So, I ran up to the Visitors Center to try and get warm and lucky for me I didn't get sick or get pneumonia or even worse from that experience. My Dad as you could imagine at the time, almost could have shot and strangled me for being out in those types of weather conditions and getting all of my expensive equipment wet. Well as I was to learn later on, all of the pictures that I took from the E-Day 1995 festivities were shot and ruined and completely lost most likely due to the rain and the camera and film getting all wet. Needless to say I learned a good hard cold lesson that day and that was "Never go out in the rain no matter what boat there is as Nothing is that important to risk your heath along with also getting very expensive equipment wet and possibly ruined as well!" This was the start of the Soo Camera jinx for me in which bad luck happened many times and often at the most and worse time for it to happen. You will find out more on the Soo Camera Jinx later on in more stories to come. Sorry for a long story but hope you all liked this story, enjoyed it and appreciated it as well. More to come!
