The AIS kiosk in the Holiday Inn Express is provided by Boatnerd.com. You should also mention that the quick route to Mission Point from the HIX is straight down Easterday Avenue. Just turn right out of the driveway.

Just stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on Easterday at I75, this past weekend. It is 5 minutes to the locks by car. I was really impressed at how nice the place was. They even have AIS setup in the lobby so you can check the river system for boats. Hot breakfast in the mornings and very nice pool (but can be loud with lots of kids). There is wireless access and a hard wired ethernet connection in the rooms. Rooms extra clean and nice comfy beds. 37" LCD TV with the best picture I had ever seen. kids brought their XBOX 360 and hooked it up via HDMI and the ethernet and were playing online games all weekend. It is across the street from LSSU, which is the reason we were there for my daughters Freshman Orientation, and there is a McDonalds next door. I have been told, you can request an upper floor with a river view, to watch boats. My room faced south.

It's 1 3/4 miles one way from the Last Resort to the locks. Which means you had better not forget anything or decide you need a jacket and have to walk back to your room. The Ramada, Lockview and Long Ships are the only ones within walking distance. The rest are no more than a 10 minute drive.

The last resort

Dick's Last Resort on East Portage was completely redone about a year ago. It is across from St Mary River and walking distance to downtown and Locks.

Get this view on google maps, then click on the bed icons that show up . you should be able to find user reviews by clicking on those icons. Or you can go to a site like http://www.tripadvisor.com and get reviews

I think that's closed; was thru there couple weeks a go, has a For Sale sign in the front window, lobby looked pretty bare.

I second Denny, the also charge way too much for what you get with it.

I have stayed at the Lockview many times and although it is close and across from the Locks, it does have a few bad points as well. The last time I was there in 2010, the beds were terrible for trying to sleep on with the sheets and covers constantly coming off it. There is not much room to park a car especially a large vehicle and not much space up in the office for the continental breakfast.

I always stay at the Lockview Motel. No frills, but clean and across the street from the locks. One drawback, the Wifi is only availabe in the motel office.

We are interested in going up to the Soo and would like to get some places to stay that are clean, reasonable and are near the locks.

Any info at all is greatly appreciated.

Ps: I would like to do this, by the end of this month
