Keith,

Thats a rather interesting photo of Windmill Point, as there appears to be a small wooden lighthouse on the right side of the bar. I was not aware that such a structure had served at Windmill Point Detroit, and this photo helps to fill in some of the gaps concerning the history of the station.

As a native of the Detroit area, I have always had a special interest in the lights of the River, and I would certainly love to see your collection of images. 2 dozen photos of Mama Juda alone is especially tantalizing.

It is indeed the Windmill Point lighthouse.

I would try and contact those at the Lighthouse Digest Magazine. I am sure they would be able to help you. There are times that if they don't know about a lighthouse they will publish a photo of it and see if any readers may know anything.

Could this possibly an earlier version of the old Windmill Point lighthouse?

Hi,
I am trying to discern if the attached photo is of a Detroit River region, or even a Michigan-Great Lakes Lighthouse? At first glance, I thought it may be Mama Juda Lighthouse, but it resembles that light only superficially. The Tower projected out of the Roof of that now lost Light. Grassy Island was always wood, and never brick. I have compared this view to every lighthouse picture I have in our archival collection - over 2 dozen alone of Mama Juda from the early 1850s to late 1920s; the same rough era for the others. The reason for suggesting it may be one of the several "lost" lighthouses of the Detroit River region is that it came with a collection of early photographs dating from the 1880s to the 1910s showing the Detroit River area shipyards. I have consulted with all the usual suspect volumes (you name it - I got it) and none seem to match. This may actually be on the West Coast due to some of the other materials it was associated with. Thank in advance for any suggestions or ideas. Keith M Steffke Oldshipbuilder AT Yahoo DOT Com
