Guest, I take it you are familiar with Revell as you mentioned being a car modeler. I, too, am a car modeler with model ships as my second love. I've done 3 conversions that might be of interest to you. From Revell's USS Montrose VC2-S-AP5, I built a Cliffs Victory. From their USS Mission Capistrano T2-SE-A1, I did the Paul H. Carnahan, and from the SS Hope C4-S-B2, did the Joseph H. Thompson. Lots of hull cutting and sheet plastic plus an array of parts from my parts boxes made for some very satisfying projects. They were invited for display at the Mather Museum in 2005 when they highlighted modelling as a time-burner for Lakes sailors in their spare time. I had always wanted to do ore boat models and thought I could do it with existing models out there, just like the shipyards did, plus I was familiar with the real things from my time in the Navy and CG. Ever thought about projects like this?
