They should be posted early this week, our picture team has been working 7 days a week at their real jobs.

It was a private ceremony within the secured part of the Port of Hamilton. I know that someone who posts here regularly got on the list though...

I took some pictures of her as she was approaching Marine City about 9 last night and sent them to the news page. They haven't been posted yet. Hopefully in the next day or so.

Getting ready to go down and have a look at her now, to bad it's to dark for pics. Good sailing to ship and crew I'll get some shots next trip by.

They fueled from Hamilton Energy in Hamilton.
As of right now that is also expected to be the last of such refueling jobs done by the Hamilton Energy. She will be replaced by the new Sterling Energy immediately.
What will happen to her next, scrap? or will she sail into the sunset on a new mission?

As of 10:25 p.m. on July 20 she is now up clear of Marysville and the Stag Island Upper Light and heading toward the Black River in Port Huron and eventually passing under the Bluewater Bridge and into Lake Huron. Darn it if it just wasn't so far and dark outside I would be there in a minute. Oh well, at least we have the AIS to watch her on thank goodness for that at least. 3 Long & 2 Short.

Looks from the AIS maps that she is around the Algonac area in the lower St. Clair River at this time 8:40 p.m. and by the time it gets to Port Huron it will probably be dark. BTW did not make it out to see her as I figured it would be dark or close to it by the time she made it to St. Clair, Marysville & Port Huron. Oh well it is what is and I know that our paths will cross and that I will see her someday on the river. 3L2S to the cap and crew and have a good and safe voyage to Thunder Bay and back. God Speed and also God Bless and may you have calm seas and fair winds on your trip and voyage. Welcome to the Great Lakes and both the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers Algoma Harvester.

So far it looks good for daytime shots on the river. Fingers crossed we'll get our first look at her, good luck everyone.

Thanks Guest as I will be watching and tracking her movement through the Canal today and be watching for her to come up to both Detroit and Port Huron tomorrow.

Don't give up quite yet, Denny. There's quite a line of traffic through the Welland this morning, and that will affect her travel time getting to the Detroit & St. Clair Rivers.

I see that she has finally departed Hamilton this morning July 19 and is now enroute to Thunder Bay to load next. Her ETA though for Thunder Bay is July 22 at 1200 from Marinetraffic.com and their website. I suspect that she will be passing through both the Detroit and St. Clair Rivers sometime early tomorrow morning at the best. Drats, as I was hoping to see her but don't think I can quite make it that early in the morning sorry to say. Oh well, if I don't see her this year at least that will give me something to look forward to for next year as that is how I look at it. Anyway, hope that the cap and crew have a good and safe trip heading on up to Thunder Bay for their next load. We'll see and catch you all out on the St. Clair River sometime. Until then a hearty 3L2S to you all!

This was in the Duluth News this morning. http://www.duluthnewstribune.com/conten ... -efficient

A new ship on the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Waterway has its company touting her as an example of a new breed of bulk cargo vessels.

The Algoma Harvester is Algoma Central Corp.’s second of a kind, joining the Algoma Equinox, which is billed as being able to minimize environmental impact by optimizing fuel efficiency and operating performance resulting in 45 percent more energy efficient vessels.
The Algoma Harvester was christened Wednesday in Lake Ontario’s Hamilton Harbor in St. Catherines, Ontario.

“We have been extremely pleased with the performance of the first Equinox Class vessel,” said Greg Wright, president and CEO of Algoma.

“We expect the ship to move 1 million tons per year,” he said of the newest, the Harvester.

The Algoma Harvester will eventually make its way into the Port of Duluth-Superior during the 2014-15 shipping season as part of its expected 10 grain and iron ore trips. The Algoma Harvester will primarily serve the company’s agriculture and iron and steel industry customers, making regular voyages from lakehead ports on Lake Superior, such as Thunder Bay and Duluth/Superior to Port Cartier, Quebec City, and Baie Comeau in the St. Lawrence.

Algoma operates a 32-vessel Canadian-flagged Great Lakes fleet, and its Harvester is part of a $300 million project to construct six state-of-the-art Equinox-class vessels.

“Fleet renewal is critical for a sustainable supply chain,” said Jim Baske, president and CEO of the Harvester’s first customer, ArcelorMittal Dofasco.

The original Algoma Equinox did call on the BNSF dock in Superior on Dec. 11, 2013.
