The Cheboygan Crib light marked the outer end of the dredged channel leading into the Cheboygan River. The crib beneath it was placed there to mark the end of the channel, and the lighthouse placed atop the crib when mariners complained they could not see the crib at night. The crib never served as a water intake. I have some photos of the lighthouse on the crib on my website at:
