American Fortitude
Admins, Feel free to delete as you wish. I started this a while back when I heard about the plan to scrap her, I started this, and it sat for a while, and now finally got around to finishing it. It may be a touch too saccharine, but y'all can be the judge of that. The American Fortitude Sent to Scra...

Re: An Edmund Fitzgerald poem, of all things
Thanks all. I appreciate it.
Also, just a note: Joyce wasn't my wife, but she was the wife of a close friend, so I wrote it for him after she passed. Take care.

An Edmund Fitzgerald poem, of all things
I'm more of a reader on these boards than a poster, but I know that the Edmund Fitzgerald is always a subject of interest. I'm a writer/editor, but a poet first, and I happened to write a Fitz -related poem, and it was included in a book that just came out, so I thought I'd share it. Note: By way of...

Re: My Sea Stories is out.
Brett - I received an email from Amazon stating the pre-order was cancelled and the book will not be published for Kindle users. Weird. I preordered a physical copy(Canadian Amazon) and have since gotten mine. I was gonna get the Ebook, but I didn't feel like having to deal with the hassle of the K...

Re: Tallship Movements.
All, I work for a publishing company based out of the Twin Cities, and we recently published Tall Ships: History Comes to Life on the Great Lakes, which was released to coincide with the events on the Lakes this summer. The book covers a wide variety of Tall Ships that have visited the Great Lakes d...

New York Public Library Releases Many Images, incld. Lakers
The New York Public Library just released 187k images into the public domain. I guess that a bunch pertained to shipping/lakers, so I did a quick search. The following images all pertain to Duluth and are from the NYPL's collection of Detroit Publishing Company postcards. I'm guessing there's lot of...

Re: Job opportunities on frieghters
As it happens, this popped up on my Facebook feed. Apparently MARAD (the maritime admin for the department of transportation), has created a "military to maritime" program. It might be a place to start for you, or for other vets: http://www.transportation.gov/fastlane/joining-forces-connec...

Random Coast Guard-related find at a thrift store
Found this Coast Guard-labeled case at a thrift store the other day. It's apparently from Alexandria Station (VA). From what I've read, a Tiger Team is a fast-response team of experts to address crises.
Was too cool to pass up.
