Re: Cleveland Activity

Hi, Beecher.

Have you heard what the total drop was at CLE?

Thanks for all of your reports. They keep me current, seeing as how I can't get down there.

Re: boiler dimension question

Hi, Alex

The story we were given in Docent training is that Cliffs knew they would eventually automate the boiler and it was less expensive to automate one.

I also seem to remember being told that when I served as a wiper on the Frontenac when she made her maiden voyage with the new engine.

Re: Cleveland Activity

Hi, Beecher.

Cathy and I loved the photo of the cat, bad pun and all.

A belated welcome back. I enjoy your posts.

Please let my friends on the WGM know I miss them. I'd like to get down there, but my vision has deteriorated more.

Re: Aircraft carriers on Lake Michigan

There is an Arcadia book out that covers the conversions. I do not know the title as I have disposed of my book collection.

Also, as an interesting side light, George H. W. Bush trained in one of them.

Re: Crew Dicipline and Morale

Scott, when I sailed (mud 50's) if a crew member did not "fit in"one of the remedies was the silent treatment.

With nobody talking to him, other than work related. he usually left that boat. I saw this work in a few cases.

Denny, maybe you could follow the Browns. Using reverse logic, they might actually win a game. :)

I know, Denny. I sailed for Columbia and that is why I noticed it. Maybe she is sending a message that she wants to come home.

Interesting (and great) photos of the Sarnia Fleet.

With the sun on her hull, the Cuyahoga coloring almost looks like a Columbia boat

Re: Cleveland activity

In the fifties we only saw an occasional pigeon as we went up to thj steel plants. Nothing alive and associated with water was ever seen as we made the trip. What is the big draw that is responsible for all the gulls present in these pictures? I remember that also. The mass of Seagulls we see now c...

Ive been semi layed up with a fractured hip, but am now pretty well recovered. Don't think I'll be down on the WGM any time soon. I'm not too steady on my feet yet.

Kawartha Voyageur

Thanks a lot Fran Hood. for posting the photos of the Voyageur. My Wife and I made 12 trips on her. A lot of fun and great food. FYI, she not only has the bow going up and down, her pilot house and the canopy at the after end can also be lowered for bridge clearance. The radar post can also be lower...
