Re: Bob Vincent American Fortitude view
Its getting kind of late in the season for a scrap tow. I believe there was a rumor of the Fortitude going to Texas for scrapping. I would imagine its too late in the year for that at this point with winter getting ready to close in. Has anyone heard if this ship is to be dismantled at Port ...

Re: Challenger Conversion
I am amazed that the Challenger hull is still in such good shape to warrant this work. If done properly, that hull could sail for another 10-25 years.
My thoughts exactly. I obviously do not have the survey results and nor do I know the actual cost of the conversion, however, I would think that ...

Re: Saginaw
No, the picture posted in the news gallery makes it appear like the rebuilt boom is attached to an hydraulic system. The hydraulic system you are seeing in the picture is from the James L. Kuber. If you look at other pictures in the news gallery you will see that the Saginaw's rebuilt boom is not ...

I will be making some drawings, similar to those of John Belliveau, of various Great Lakes freighters. Polsteam and Flinter offer detailed profile diagrams on their website for their fleet, unfortunately none of the Great Lakes companies offer these on their websites. I was wondering if there are ...

Re: Maritime Trader
I wonder if Vanguard would be interested in her. If not I can see this boat heading for the scrappers. The Trader has always been one of my favorite boats.

Re: maumee
From what I hear from a guy who sailed her for years JAW's needs a lot of plate work, especially the bottom. Maybe a better bet would be the Townsend, though small she is already a diesel. it would seem that the cost would be more having to convert a cement boat, as they would have to take out all ...

Re: Edward L. Ryerson
I get the feeling she will be scrapped soon. As the company continues to try to improve it's bottom line, the cost of keeping an idle ship is a drain. Plus the last year it ran, it lost a lot of money due to the economic crash, so they will never fit it out again without a contract with guaranteed ...
