Years ago there was a show called "Dive Detectives" that did an episode on the Fitz, they did a test on another laker that had the same clamps and found that barely a trickle of water leaked through even with very few clamps engaged.
It was quite informative, if you can find it.

Re: Deck machinery help
What a great looking model, looks really accurate. Are you still working on it? I would love to keep up with your progress and see it when you're finished. I'll probably post some pics of my CG model, but it's no where near primetime right now. I've been working on it for quite a while, and have bee...

Re: Deck machinery help
Does anyone happen to know the name of the company that made the lifeboat davits, or were they made in-house at GLEW?
I want to see if I can find the patent for the life-saving gear.

Deck machinery help
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone would know where I could find some pictures of Fitzgerald era lake ship deck machinery (ventilators, fuel tanks, davits, winches, etc.) that are closer and of better quality that most found on the web. I'm working on a 3d model of the Fitz and I would like it to be as acc...

Fitz Question
Hi all,
I'm looking for some information about the sizes of the exposed I-beams shown in pictures underneath the Texas Deck, Focsle deck, and poopdeck.
It's for a model I'm working on.
TIA,

Re: Historical Perspective
We will make this work! happy New Years my Boatnerd friends! Hi all. I'm just curious as to how many photographs you need scanned, at what size and what their intended purpose would be (printing, screen viewing, etc) as each requires different dpi resolution? Are you looking to have them put on CD-...

Re: Exterior Deck Covering Question
Thanks all for your help. I do have another request if possible, does anyone have any decent pics of the Fitz's or Fitz-style lifeboat davits? All the pics I've seen are either too dark, too small to zoom in on detail without pixelating, or from to far away to even see detail. Any other detail pics ...

Exterior Deck Covering Question
Hi all,
I'm working on a 3d model of the Fitz and am trying to find info on what the exterior decks were covered with?
In photos there appears to be seam lines in the decks, are these some kind of rubberlike decking and then painted? If so, where can I find more info on this material?
TIA

Fitzgerald hatch crane question
Hi all, I'm working on a 3D model of the Fitz and I'm looking for some reference material concerning the hatch crane and other machinery. I'm going for as much realism as I can so I could use as many photos as possible. I think I've pretty much seen all the photos around in books and on the web, but...

Lifeboat davits
Does anyone know who designed the lifeboat davits on the Fitz or what company made them?
Or were they propietary to GLEW?
I just need some good reference photos to accurately model them on a 3D Fitz I'm working on.
TIA.
