Is it just me, or has the vessel track function quit? Haven't been able to get it to show vessel tracks for about a week now.

This episode of Around the Corner with John McGivern features the town of Sturgeon Bay and some some of the maritime activities in the area. Well worth watching. Produced by Milwaukee Public TV.

Re: Fog horns
that's the problem with fog horns - you can not tell which direction they come from, in a fog, and you can not tell how far away they are. I can not believe these are still used today ! these are totally useless in a fog. Back in the days of fog horns and radio-direction-finder stations, some were ...

Re: Gott and Blough
Right now at 8:50 PM EDT the wind is about 20 MPH out of the Northwest. The Blough looks to be stopped in the ice and the Gott has been maneuvering around just on the north side of the Blough, sometimes less than 1/2 a boat-length away from it. Go to marinetraffic.com and zoom in to where you can se...

Gott at the Soo
Noticed today that the Gott got mostly through the Poe lock upbound, then now is backing out downbound. Now, is it the first upbound, or the first downbound, or both?

Re: Peter Cresswell
If you go close enough in on marinetraffic.com it will show the ships in real size. It shows that while the Cresswell is heading upriver, it at times is backing downriver. You can also see the two icebreakers in their real size as well. This is evidently a new feature in marinetraffic. The AIS data ...

There is this mention in this Pennsylvania newspaper, Lebanon Evening Report, page 8, July 29, 1924: "YE ARE LOST, THE CAPTAIN SHOUTED" as he sunk his craft to save it. Sounds funny, hut that's what he did. Shifting cargo in storm, freighter Sandcraft was being thrown on rocks near Chicago...

Unmanned lightship on Lake St. Clair
In the March 1937 issue of Popular Science on page 30 & 31 there is an article about this unmanned lightship controlled by radio that then was stationed about in the middle of the lake. Wonder if any of you old-timers remember it? Here is a link to that issue. https://books.google.com/books?id=g...
