Re: Webster, big game hunter
That's a riot I have always thought the spider on the cam was comical and kinda cute, but did not realize he had a name and a cult following. Perhaps Webster can capitalize on a merchandising deal.

Re: Herbert C. Jackson Loading Coal
Hey Kitten, There is actually one cam in Buffalo where you could potentially catch ships coming in http://www.nittec.org/mobile/5-117.html http://www.wgrz.com/travel/traffic/corridors.aspx?filter=190 I have used it to check if anything is at General Mills, but never tried catching an arrival on it. ...

Re: Manistee
I suspect the move has two driving factors.
1.) Port Security at Gateway
2.) The changes to traffic as a result of the new parkway make the current location more logiticly challanging, then the old Rt. 5 and Fuhrman Blvd layout.

Last I knew Radium Yellowknife was pushing around the lumber barge Big 551, but that was at the very end of last season. I thought I heard something this year about her being involved, along with Comodore Straits in moving a vessel for scrapping as well. I think the engine problem happened in July t...

Re: Erie ships
The easiest time to spot ships in Erie is during Layup. For the past few years Great Lakes Fleet has wintered at least two vessels in Erie. This year Speer spent it's winter at Erie Sand and Gravel, last year Blough spent the winter there. Both years Presque Isle was at Mountfront Terminal. In terms...

http://pdfhost.focus.nps.gov/docs/NHLS/Text/96000968.pdf There is some info. As far as actual drawings, I would recomend trying to work through the Buffalo Fire Department, Cotter is still active, so I imagine they may be able to help. I can also provide photos if that will help you, and could easil...

Here is bit more on the history lesson. http://ech.case.edu/ech-cgi/article.pl?id=MC1 MEDUSA CORP., a nationally known cement company, was founded by 3 brothers, Arthur, Spencer, and Wm. Newberry, as the Sandusky Portland Cement Co. in 1892, with offices in Cleveland and a plant at Bay Bridge near S...

Re: Tug question - Patricia Hoey
Hoey's original wheelhouse was conventional. That one is part of the refit. I am not aware of any other tugs on the lakes running that configuration, but it is a very common design for modern tugs. Many tugs working the major seaport have that design. http://www.boatnerd.com/pictures/tug/images/Patr...

Good point I forgot the Lower Lakes fleet is half US half Canadian. So I guess then I would expect to see Manistee or Maumee fairly soon at BSP.

The Buffalo Vessel passage section show Cuyahoga likely headed to Toledo, but I would still anticipate a Lower Lakes Vessel in Buffalo in the next week or 2.

Re: Cuyahoga
Assuming she took on a load of Sand, I would assume she is headed for Buffalo Sand Products. Based on what they have on thier yard I would expect to see a Lower Lakes Vessel there within the week, so Cuyahoga seems to make sense.

Based on the dwindling pile at Buffalo Sand products this trip is none to soon.
Owens Sound to Buffalo is about an 18 hour transit correct?
Any update on departure?

Re: Favorite boat
From what I have heard Fortitude will not come out unless there is demand. In recent years Fortitude has spent part of the season sharing Duluth to Buffalo with Adam E. Cornelius. I have heard Cornelius will remain laid up this year as well. That particular run will likely go to American Mariner if ...
