Re: St. Clair on Fire News Update

The replacement cost is a Whole different story, though. Good Point! Luckily this fire didn't spread to the other two ships moored nearby. Does the U.S. have any type of waiver system to allow a foreign flagged (Canadian) vessel to carry cargoes between two domestic ports if there are no available ...

Re: William A. Irvin drydocking

What's the hurry? Only place she'll be going is back to her slip, and that won't happen until that work there gets done. Meanwhile there are a number of boats that'll be going back to work in less than 2 months thatll need that drydock. They'll tend to them first, that'll still leave plenty of time ...

Re: All ugly team

Presque Isle and the Blough! The tug just looks incredibly stocky, and awkward. And the Blough is just too wide I feel. Honestly just not a big fan of any of those big boats that Canadian National ownes. Just a comment. As you may know, the Blough was originally to be a 1000-footer but redesigned &...

Is there an update as to when (or if) they'll get the causeway repaired and be running again?

Re: Algonova/Algocanada

As Chris stated, uninformed Facebook news. Someone saw the Algonova in the drydock, but didn't notice that the Algonova had left and the Algocanada took its spot in the drydock. He assumed it was the same boat.

As Chris stated, uninformed Facebook news. Someone saw the Algonova in the drydock, but didnt see when it left and was replaced in the drydock by Algocanada so he assumed they were both the same boat and had a name change.

I don't know if that's the actual sale price, they were asking $1.65 million. $200,000 Is, however, what they paid the Port Huron Museum for it in 2012.

The Bermuda Triangle is imaginery, North Atlantic weather is real. The facts are the Bermuda triangle and the loss of many ships planes and lives over many years is anything but imaginary sorry. I think he is alluding to the fact that there is nothing supernatural at work within the so-called Bermu...

I remember someone in that area having a pilothouse off the Detroit, one of the river rail car ferries. Would see it when Diamond Jack's was still doing their Port Huron cruises.

Yes, a common practice at least up to 1960.

Re: Museum Ships

The Norisle is scheduled to be scuttled next year. I am of the mind that one of the most unique things about the ships themselves are their superstructures. One doesn't have to save the entire ship but only the forward sections such as the Benson Ford and the Lewis Herriman. I was hoping the JB For...

Re: Museum Ships

You can try the "Last steam!" "Last True Laker" etc. etc..but at the end of the day, outside of the small boatnerd community, it is meaningless. The majority of your visitors are tourists, coming to see "the big ship!". Its a sad reality, but it has been proven time an...

Re: Museum Ships

If Manitowoc had the funds and dock space, this would be a great place to see the Ryerson end up given she was the last freighter built at Manitowoc Shipbuilding. The problem would be whether the Wisconsin Maritime Museum could support the Cobia and the Ryerson. I don't think WMM would be open to s...

Did anyone think of calling LSSMA directly to see if the event was still on instead of asking on a page the mayor may not monitor?

This day in history for 8/20 mentions the 1920 sinking of the Superior City following a collision. Has this wreck been located? Seems like the location should be known, but I don't recall ever hearing that it's been found. Has been found, photographed, and dove on. Skeletal remains have been report...

Re: Valley Camp

With it still being in the water and active (although immobile) in the tourist trade, does the Valley Camp fall under any regulatory requirements by the US Coast Guard? If it's permanently moored it's out from CG jurisdiction & falls under the local building codes. I know both the City of Milwa...

Re: Valley Camp

With all of the talk of the Irvin going to Fraser Shipyards for dry docking, how come the Valley Camp has never required dry docking? Would it be too fragile to move? I think the big difference is the Irvin is just going across the harbor. The Valley Camp would have to go to either Superior or Stur...
