Re: Algoma Niagara
Isee that Algoma Intrepid is anchored in the Sarnia anchorage along with Iver Bright. Algoma Niagara is at the Straits heading for Chicago. MAYBE the Intrepid is the one heading into layup.

Re: Replacement tonnage
I’ve been saying the same thing on here for past 3-4 yrs . Everyone calls me pessimistic😂. Not so. Just realistic looking at the big picture. By the end of this decade it will be a parade to the scrappers. Lots of sailing jobs lost. If you’re an engineer you’re good to find great work onshore. Deck...

Replacement tonnage
Don't know if this has come up, but what thoughts do you have about how VTB is going to manage or replace the lost carrying capacity of the Thompson? Build, buy and convert or do nothing at all?

Not this fall? Heard it would be back out before winter lay-up.

Re: MRC port colborne
What's all this about the Joe Thompson due at MRC? Sold for scrap? Is there a planned replacement? And, what happens to the tug? Haven't heard a thing anywhere!

Re: Algoma Transport
I read that, too, Mr. Link. Thanks for the memory jogger. Now it makes sense. And, yes, they'd have to clean out the holds to take on grain.

Fascinating bit of information. I remember the Sarah Spencer, and before that, when it was the Adam E. Cornelius. Many thanks.

Makes sense to me! If she unloaded ore at Zug Island, her holds will need to be cleaned before taking on grain.guest wrote: ↑September 5, 2023, 3:19 pm When she left upbound saturday she went to wash out her cargo holds.heard it on my scanner.

Re: Algoma Transport
when she went up bound into lake huron she probably did this to turn around and head back to zug island. remember when the renvoyle turned in the river and not going out on the lake to safely turn and proceed downbound. it was the end of her career Good point, guest. But she was almost as far north...

Re: Algoma Transport
Actually, it left Sarnia mid-afternoon Sept 2 and headed upbound on Lake Huron toward Goderich. Today, Sunday the 3rd, it's down at the mouth of the Rouge River. Arriving back in Sarnia morning of the 4th from Zug Island, Detroit. This time, going to the grain dock. Should be tied up roughly 530am....

Algoma Transport
I recently heard that the Algoma Transport is going for scrap at the end of this season. True? Also, she's been tied up in Sarnia for a few days now. Why? Many thanks.

Re: Cuyahoga
There will eventually be a Canada transport report. Regardless of who the owner is on paper, it’s a Canadian registered vessel and the fire occurred in Canadian waters. Ownership, stockholders, investments firms, etc. all interesting reading that in the end changes nothing. It’s an 80 yr old ship t...

Re: Bum Boat
Yes, I remember the bum boat in Toledo. That was back in 1969 when I was on the Ashland as a deckhand. Floating store was an apt description. I recall we could get just about anything we wanted or needed. I do not remember a roulette wheel, though.

Re: Layups???
I see that the Whitefish Bay has docked at the grain elevator. I guess the Algoma boats will have to find space across from the grain elevator. Perhaps at least one Algoma boat will winter in Goderich now. Just thinking out loud!

Re: Layups???
I think the odds are pretty significant that the Intrepid, Innovator and Conveyor will layup together at the grain elevator in Sarnia and probably in a couple of weeks, too. Time will tell.

Re: Layups???
Now the Intrepid shows Goderich, but Whitefish Bay still shows Sarnia. Again, layup or fuel? A few hours will tell the story.

Layups???
I see the AIS systems on both the Whitefish Bay and Algoma Intrepid say "Sarnia". Could one or both be heading into layup or just taking on fuel? Anyone know which for sure?
