Well it is probably much better for Lake shipping that the plant is in Ohio. The HBI briquettes were unlikely to be shipped by lakers.

Pretty much what Cliffs said would happen if they couldn't get the still to be completed former Essar site.

Just to add what I wrote earlier, the second-half of 2016 should be better in terms of pricing sustainability for the domestic steel producers versus recent years. Currently, 7.8 million tons of yearly steel capacity is shutdown, and as the market improves its expected these blast furnacs will be restarted.

Here is a list of blast furnaces currently idled.

Indiana Harbor West #3 1.6 million tons
Ashland 1.0 million tons
Granite City 2.8 million tons
Fairfield, Alabama 2.4 million tons

Of these, the blast furnace at Fairfield is expected to be replaced by an Electric-Arc Furnace when the market recovers. The others will also be reactivated as the market warrants.

Hopefully Cliffs can get the mineral rights and build the DRI they are planning. It's the only hope for the iron range as blast furnaces are a dying breed and have been since the early '70s. As for Essar, lets just say that whatever company they touch gets loaded with debt and becomes a debacle for all involved.

And to top it off, iron is still dwindling down from last year's horrible year.

About time to pull out.

So much for Essar on the Iron Range.
