When do they drain the canal?

I heard it's quite the sight to see.

Usually starts around New Years Day. I don't live in St Catharines and don't usually pass by the Canal around that time.

Usually shuts down between Christmas and New Years. I haven't seen an official announcement, but that's the standard.

Hi all, has there been any dates issued as to when the lower seaway and welland canal system , is to be shut down.
Any info on this is greatly appreciated.
