The Speer has always been scheduled to lay up at Toledo for winter work. The Integrity and Century are also regulars at Toledo for layup and winter work. This DOES put them in a "good position" because of the availability of dock space, ease of access and contractors to do the work. Nothing unsual here.

That sounds like the reason. It doesn't put them in a good position to start next season.

Is this due to the fact that the St. Marys is to icy to get through the locks by closure?

Heads up again to all boatnerds this week. You will now have three 1,000 footers headed for Toledo and Winter Lay-up that will be out on the St. Clair River at least sailing downbound in ballast and with no cargoes aboard. The 1,000 footers to be on guard and lookout for are the American Integrity, American Century along with the Edgar B. Speer. All three are headed to Toledo for Winter Lay Up and all three unloaded cargoes at Lake Michigan ports and will be heading down the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers empty this week on their way to Toledo and eventual lay-up. It is not often one gets to see these 1,000 footers sailing downbound without cargo aboard so enjoy them whenever you see and photograph them this week as it certainly will be different to see that's for sure. Hope that this helps.

Heads Up boatnerds as this week you will see something that doesn’t happen very often on the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers! This week you may get lucky and see the American Integrity and Edgar B. Speer both downbound but in ballast with no cargoes heading for lay up. It is not often you see them downbound and empty so this will be a rare treat if you are fortunate and lucky to see them. The American Century could be another one as well if she is to lay up this winter in Toledo or not? Any rate though enjoy these special moments if you see them as again it is not often to see a 1,000 footer downbound and empty as usually they are most often than not loaded when they are downbound.
