marnelink vessels
Re: marnelink vessels
Tug may never work again if posts in this forum are to be believed. Barge only had occasional work under Upper Lakes management and it appears she now needs a chartered tug to be viable such as recent job with Ocean Stevns. Apparently there's no work going on on owners UK located vessel Tenacity so don't expect her to be trading in Canada anytime soon. Not too promising.
Re: marnelink vessels
Reading this and the kathryn spirit threads sounds like the commodore straits/determination may be done. is there are any value in scrapping a tug other than for usable parts? is the hull worth the cost of scrapping? this owner has a ship in the UK under cdn registry that was being converted from a tanker to general cargo..is that proceeding
and can we expect her in the domestic coastal and lakes trade anytime soon? if so what trade..bulk or general cargo i'd assume. think she is 10,000 tonner?

Re: marnelink vessels
Yes, the do have ro-ro available. Never thought of that aspect.empee wrote:The barge also has bow ramp. Does Nain have roro facilities?
Re: marnelink vessels
The fact that these are designed for heavy lift, does not mean "only" heavy lift. It could, and probably is, the only barge available that is capable to transport and offload theses units. The docks at Nain would not support the weight of a land crane, and in all likelyhood, there wouldn't be one available there anyway to off-load a barge.jacques wrote:do they use the big heavy derricks to load prefab housing? can't think this type of housing weighs much.
Re: marnelink vessels
anyone in belledune get pictures of this project cargo loaded on the barge or photos of the discharge in nain please post here. thanks

Re: marnelink vessels
is there a chance the tug will be scrapped? guess it won't be worth much. After drydocking of the barge where will it operate?
Re: Ex. marinelink vessels
Tug and bags are on their way to Belledune to pick a load of prefab houses for Nain, Labrador. The Ocean Stevns will then take the barge back to the shipyard at Les Méchins for a dry dock.
It is not known at this time when/if the tug (ex. Commodore Straits) will sail. The company has to carry out major engine repairs before a certificate can be issued for the tug.

Re: marnelink vessels
Is it a Vale charter? if so why would group ocean have to worry about getting paid??
Re: marnelink vessels
nain is close to voisey bay i would assume they have chartered the tug to fullfill their agreement hope groupe ocean gets their money!
Re: marnelink vessels
there's a posting on this board stating Chalk Lifter under tow of Ocean Stevns to Belledune where she will load freight for Nain Labrador. Guessing its heavy cargo..what type of project freight goes to Nain?
has ocean acquired the barge or has barge owner chartered the tug?

Re: marnelink vessels
what cargo is she picking up in belledune and where is it going?
suppose heavy lifts using barge like the marinelink one.

Re: marnelink vessels
guess they could have chartered a tug to move her but that's a big, heavy barge you'd need plenty of hp I'd think especially in open water. Also recall commodore straits has a pushing arrangement mounted, would that have to be fitted to the pusher tug??
Re: marnelink vessels
Chaulk Lifter back on Port of Belledune vessel arrivals site with tug TBN for Aug 22nd. Is the barge on the move from three rivers and with which tug? thought owners only had the one tug.
Re: marnelink vessels
Apparently the tug engine and auxiliaries are in bits and pieces and various repair shops from all over have been onboard to look at her.
Don't know about the barge but she has a cat in a box sitting on the stern so maybe she needs gennie work also? Can't see either boat going anywhere in a hurry.

Re: marnelink vessels
the tog was built as the hadia brave to tow large barges loaded with newsprint between port alberni on vanvouver island to long beach California on the return trip bunker c was carried in the hull of the barge for the pulp mill in port alberni
Re: marnelink vessels
If new names ie Chaulk Determination and Chaulk Lifter have not been painted on the hull and work has ceased and if indeed there are money troubles then perhaps a resale is coming. Can a tug-barge combination like this trade internationally?
Re: marnelink vessels
Hear both tug and barge detained by port trois rivieres for unpaid berthing dues
Re: marnelink vessels
Now gone from the website...wondering if the units are indeed active?
