Besides the fact that the Speer is leased, another factor may be the fact that the added versatility of a conventional boom is not required at this time. How many seasonal cargoes does the Gott carry that are not destined to Conneaut or Gary? I know she has carried loads into Nanticoke in the past (I traveled there many years ago from Michigan to get pictures of her first trip there), but do voyages like this still take place?

This question has been batted around quite often. The Speer is always fully occupied serving Gary and Conneaut in the same way the Cort is, serving Burns Harbor. What new markets could they serve to make their owners more money ?

no, the vessel is leased and the cost has gone up dramatically since 1996

A definite chance as seen by the earlier conversion of her sister. But she's keeping busy with her existing system.

Until the day comes when that's not the case, there's simply no need.

is there ever a chance that they would convert the speers shuutle unloaeder to a on deck boom like the got, it seems that it would make the ship more versatile.tia
