Why is the harbor red in the Mapleglen shots?

Here is a satellite picture of Lake Superior.
You can see the red from the St. Louis River that drains out
through the Duluth Harbor and into Lake Superior. Minnesota
has had some very heave rains only days apart, so the rivers
that run through iron country turn pretty red with the run-off.

Lots of rain washes out the iron-rich red clay from the rivers into the harbor. Takes a few days to settle.
