Cleveland activity
Re: Cleveland activity
Hey Beecher, great photos as always! Your vantage point is excellent. I get a kick out of how they're building the new lift span. It seems like they're saying "we're building a bridge span and darn it we're going to build it up high above ground". Fun to see it in your pix. I hope you can capture the float when they erect it.

The AIS is down here. The Buffalo came in and 'snuck up on us.

Sam Laud backing down
The Iowa was right behind assisting the Manistee.
You can see both here
I caught the Manistee at this urban fish habitat renewal project. We have nice game fish being caught up the river in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
The TITANIC Artifact Exhibition opened at the Great Lakes Science Center.
Re: Cleveland activity
We will have some more photo ops when they float the new Columbus Road Lift Bridge bridge deck into place. They are very talented at their craft.

Burns Harbor unloaded Taconite Ore Pellets. The cargo was loaded in Silver Bay, Minnesota. This is also not the first time that she has unloaded in Cleveland as last year at almost the same time, she made a rare trip to Cleveland as well. I don't know if she has any more of these trips scheduled but, indeed it is rare to have her come down to the lower great lakes. The American Century also made a trip to Cleveland previously with taconite also loaded from Silver Bay.
Re: Cleveland activity
I saw the Burns Harbor was here today (4/2). It is rather unusual to see a footer in Cleveland. Does anyone know what she was unloading here or when we might see another footer in town?
Re: Cleveland activity
The Kaye E Barker was at the bulk terminal today. The Calumet sailed up the river today as well.
I like watching when they turn on the corner like this. Kinda like NASCAR but they never touch it seems.
This is the trade pattern that Cleveland/Cleveland Rocks serviced.

Re: Cleveland activity
American Courage left layup early this morning from Cleveland at around 0600 or 6 A.M. on Saturday, March 23. She is bound for Silver Bay to load Taconite and returning to Cleveland to unload.

Has anyone e-mailed the site? I have in the past and they don't seem to watch it all the time.

"Nothing on the AIS though. "
It seems that the 'Boatnerd AIS' local receiving station may be off-line. I haven’t seen any local (Cleveland - Erie) traffic in a while although other AIS trackers have been displaying this data.
Hopefully, Boatnerd will arrange a master re-set as the 2013 shipping season gets under way.

Thanks for the link.
I woke to a boat whistle this morning - 05:00 - to find out that the American Courage had departed her winter moorings & on a Saturday!
Nothing on the AIS though. It reminded me of one of my kids sneaking out the window at night..

"I missed the departure of the Alpena.
What exactly is taboo about sailing out on a Friday?"

D/A Pathfinder has been on the shuttle. Day & night.
The mills are glowing in the valley beyond. Hazy day here.

It's my understanding the Pathfinder will shuttle iron ore from Cleveland Bulk (Wendy Park) to the steel mill in March.

A friend who graduated from GLMA last summer was to be in Cleveland Friday to start work as a 3rd mate on the Dorothy Ann. Spring must be right around the bend.

Re: Cleveland activity
Haven't even looked at AIS in weeks, but see Dorothy Ann is showing up at Cleveland. I know she laid-up there, and maybe her marker has been on AIS all along, but I'm wondering (or hoping)is a crew is getting her ready for early runs?
