Duluth 2012

Re: Duluth 2012
I agree with all of your comments regarding the "older style lakers compared to the newer ones" however, one thing surely is missing from the Munson. The one thing missing is "the classic sound of her old steam whistles and seeing that steam come pouring out of those horns!" Man how I miss those days as those were the Good 'Ole Days and that is what shipping
and the true classics were all about. You just can't beat a classic steam whistle and see the steam come shooting out of the horns and be shaken up by those sounds. Also, I miss the "Good 'Ole Days of seeing the black smoke pouring out of the smokestacks of the true classic laker as well." They just don't build today's ships and boats like they used to do.

I agree Timerover51. They also look much better with a straight deck, but at least the unloading gear on the Munson
isn't one of those large, boxy units that look so gaudy. It's tucked down pretty well and that helps maintain the nice look of the Munson.

You're correct Timerover. They were beautiful and distinct. Now they're just boxes with a building at one end. They were totally unique. Now it seems that one is seeing more salties with cabins forward but nothing aft - like on crewboats. But our attractive freighters are a thing of the past.

To me, there is just something about a laker with the pilot house forward that looks absolutely right.
