New Name Guesses?
Re: New Name Guesses?
My initial thought was Escanaba. But with the closing of that dock, I'm not so sure. Maybe so in honor of that? Maybe not, for other reasons.
Marinette and Maumee make sense. If I was a betting man, I would place my chips on those two.

How about Kinnickinnic? That would be a mouth full for a Captain or a mate! Mike

I have another name from the past and significant to Grand River, and the barge, as an ore loading port…Marquette. I think the last lakes’ vessel with this name is the Chicago museum tug and it is out of documentation.

Re: New Name Guesses?
Grand River vessels named after places have always used names with Native American ties, which to me rules out all those suggested besides Escanaba and Maumee. Maumee wouldn't be a surprise, especially because it carries ore to Toledo so often.

Back in the 1990s the Menominee and Marinette were salties that frequently traded on the Great Lakes as well as their sister Munksund. In fact, Menominee exists as Kathryn Spirit to this day.Denny wrote:Well since they've renamed the Lewis J. Kuber to the Menominee why not then have the James L. Kuber renamed for the sister city right near there as in Marinette? Makes sense to me to have one named for Menominee and the other one for Marinette. I don't recall of ever hearing a ship with the name Marinette before so this could be a first and possibly as well for the Menominee. Is there anyone that has more information on this? Thanks in advance.
