You may want to consider The Great lakes Nautical Society. We meet monthly at the Great lakes Maritime Center in Port Huron. The next meeting is October 4th, 3:00 pm. For more info about the club and contacts see: glns.org. It's a small group of model builders that are varied and mostly helpful.

We have just retired to Chesterfield. I am having great difficulty finding either a local Model Boat Club or Lakes/Venues where model boat/ship sailer's meet. I have a fun scratch built Aircraft Carrier based on HMS Invincible HMS Indifference featured on this site. Can anyone help please?
Thanks
Graham

Thank you. Outside the (model kit) box, good one. I'm getting a computer-savvy friend to do photos, hopefully soon.

Wheelsman: I'd love to see pictures also. My hats off to you if you can scratch built like that. It's certainly thinking outside the box

Guest, I take it you are familiar with Revell as you mentioned being a car modeler. I, too, am a car modeler with model ships as my second love. I've done 3 conversions that might be of interest to you. From Revell's USS Montrose VC2-S-AP5, I built a Cliffs Victory. From their USS Mission Capistrano T2-SE-A1, I did the Paul H. Carnahan, and from the SS Hope C4-S-B2, did the Joseph H. Thompson. Lots of hull cutting and sheet plastic plus an array of parts from my parts boxes made for some very satisfying projects. They were invited for display at the Mather Museum in 2005 when they highlighted modelling as a time-burner for Lakes sailors in their spare time. I had always wanted to do ore boat models and thought I could do it with existing models out there, just like the shipyards did, plus I was familiar with the real things from my time in the Navy and CG. Ever thought about projects like this?

Voco is indeed now Bearco and has been for a few years now. Same kits
different company now.

After watching a Resin Unlimited model sell for pretty stiff money on EBay it left me wondering what the differences between Sylvan, Bearco, and Resin Unlimited were. The seller claimed it was100% better than the Sylvan kits.I have two Sylvan kits but have yet to put them together they seem like nice castings though. What about the old Voco kits I'm told they're now the Bearco kits. I am and experienced modeler and have won awards with my car models so I don't mind a little challenge just not a lot of frustration
Thanks
