Sturgeon Bay Activity
Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
The tug Michigan and barge MIchigan arrived of Bay Ship around 1600hrs. It was escorted by the tug Barbara Andrie along with the USCG Mobile Bay. The Mobile Bay continued to her dock.
Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
I second your comments Bilge Rat and agree as well it is indeed a plus to have someone special in Sturgeon Bay covering the news and ship arrivals for the winter along with drydockings and their departures in the Spring and other times during the course of the year when they are in for repairs. Thanks for all you do for us Bob as we here at boatnerd appreciate your time, loyalty along with your dedication. It is because of people like you and other that help make this site what it is today. 3 Long and 2 Short to you Bob and thanks again. Keep up the reports and the good work you do also.

Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
I know I’ve asked already, but the PRT is Northbound for Sturgeon Bay for layup. Is therr any indication on whether she will take the canal or go around? Would love to have a chance to see her in the canal this evening, but its almost a 2 hour drive I dont want to make if I’m not sure...
Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
Two other places I’m sure as to where some of the ASC boats may end up laying up at is Toledo and possibly Milwaukee. Toledo in the past has always had a few ASC boats layup there including one or two of their 1,000 footers. In the past, Milwaukee has had one or two ASC footers as well layup there. A new port Huron, Ohio has been the site of ASC ships laying up there as well. We all know that the Adam E. Cornelius laid up there a few years ago. The John J. Boland and Sam Laud both laid up in Huron in the past so it will be interesting to see if anything lays up in Huron this winter. Hope that this information has helped you all out!
Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
After DonJon did such a good job on the Indiana Harbor’s emergency repairs this year, maybe ASC will have a few boats laying up in Erie. Otherwise, it seems likely that quite a few ASC boats will be laying in Superior for winter maintenance at Fraser. Does anyone else know where ASC boats might be laid up?Guest wrote:Pretty odd not to see any ASC boats other than the American Courage on that list.

She won't arrive tomorrow. She's still loading pellets in Two Harbors as of 11:30 a.m. 12/28. Probably be at least 4 days before she gets there.LakeWatcher wrote:I see the PRT is due tommorow. Is there any indication if she will use the canal, or go around into the bay?

Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
Bay Ship picks the smaller boats with a crane or they use the gantry crane to lift them out of the water. Also, the Bough is in for a five year and a new paint job.
Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
So how does Bay Shipbuilding get those small Chicago tour boats out of the water and into the buildings? Crane lift? Small floating drydock and a traveler? Or do they have a Marine Travel Lift now?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
This list was sent to me today from sturgeonbay.net
However when I go to that site I can't find it

Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
Neither is the Sykes. Appears they aren't counting those that have arrived already.
Re: Sturgeon Bay Activity
Bob, is this just a 5 year inspection?
