Buffalo & Detroit, destiny or fate?

Re: Buffalo & Detroit, destiny or fate?
Something tells me the good 'ol Wild are not going to be making a run for the Cup this year with a 34 & 35 record. Don't know what happened to the Minnesota teams in the last 12 months. The Twins lost 99 games, the Vikings went 3 & 13, don't know what happened. The Wild started out great and just imploded. Maybe something in the water here in MN.

Yup - the wings finally were beaten by Vancouver last night. What an impressive string of wins - 23 by count ! Almost 4 months of wins at home. Tickets are sold out for the next 8 games.

That's too bad, but I guess all good things must come to and end sooner or later. They had a good run!tugboathunter wrote:Well, Detroit's streak was snapped last night. They lost to Vancouver in a shootout.

I can't recall a more exciting time for a sports fan in the 'D'. Mr. I. has spent 'Big time' to bring exciting hockey and baseball to Detroit. Now - even the Lion's fans finally have something to look forward to each Sunday ! Just what Detroit needs.

With the Wings' record of now 23 straight wins at home I just asked my Mom today, how exciting it would be if both the Wings and the Tigers won it all in their respective sports this year and what a story that could be for the Detroit media, the city and of course us the fans. Now that the Tigers have Prince Fielder, it's gametime in the "D" with the Wings and the Tigers. Go Teams!

The way things have been going for the Wild lately, that win was a pleasant surprise Backstrom made 48 saves for that shutout win. Heck of a job!

Congrats to the Wild for their 'shout out win' over Boston ! The Wild really showed Boston how to play the game !

A tid-bit of info.
The Minnesota Wild's lifelong streak of sold-out games is 409.
The longest string of sellouts in the NHL was 487 games by the Colorado Avalanche. The other streak topping Minnesota's was 452 by the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wing game last night ( 2-17-2012 ) was tied 1 to 1 with 5.8 seconds left in the third period when the Wings scored a goal to make it 22 straight wins at home. What an exciting game ! I've been following the Wings for over 45 years and this has been their best season. It's 'great' to see a few young players for a change. They have also had over 50 straight 'sell outs' at the ticket counter. Just what Detroit needs !

Just to keep the thread going, the Wings did break the record with their win over Dallas.

The last Red Wing loss at home was on November 3,2010. They play the Stars on 2-14-2011 at 7:30 E.T. and will try to set a new NHL record for most wins, in a row, on home ice. go wings !

Re: Buffalo & Detroit, destiny or fate?
Well, Joe Mac Donald helped the wings win their 19th straight win at home last night ( 2-10-2012 ). The wings have not lost at home since last November ! 1 more win to tie the NHL record of 20 wins at home. With Howard out of action with a broken index finger - Mac Donald has done an 'Excellent' job for the wings.

Yes, Fran Tarkenton was a scrambler!ed mertz wrote:How about Fran Tarkington ( sp) for a scrambler ? The guy was very small for a Q.B.
Now it's onto hockey. How about those Red Wings ? As Howard goes - so go the Wings !
My poor old Wild team has had a major break-down. They came out of the gates like gang busters then hit a wall. They are now 13 points behind Vancouver after sitting nicely in first place.

Re: Buffalo & Detroit, destiny or fate?
I always associate Roger Staubach with "loading the shotgun" before I think of him as a scrambler.

Re: Buffalo & Detroit, destiny or fate?
Well, if we are talking about QB's that invented the scrambling let's also not forget Cowboys QB Roger Staubach and also Miami Dolphin QB Bob Griese. Both of them were scrambers in their early years in the NFL. Just watch the Super Bowl Highlight films and you will see in Super Bowl 6, Staubach scrambling around and also Bob Griese as well for a huge loss in that same game. Both Archie and Fran Tarkenton may have been scramblers early in their years but, let's not forget too that there were other QB's out there.

Re: Buffalo & Detroit, destiny or fate?
Running for your life on three, as in scrambling? Fran Tarkenton started that back in the 60s. He never just took the snap, backed up a few steps and stood there. If the defense broke through, Fran was out of the pocket and gone!

Re: Buffalo & Detroit, destiny or fate?
Beecher I agree with you on your comments relating to Archie and the play he used and invented as far as running for your life on three. You are right also in saying that without him there would be no Peyton or Eli Manning to talk about as well. However, let's not forget that Archie never played or won a Super Bowl whereas his two sons have played in a combined four with a record of 3-1. Also, both his sons are still very young and can play and Archie is now retired. For me I gotta go with the youth movement!
