Photo Collection
Re: Photo Collection
A few more on a cool day in Duluth. Heard this a.m. that Moose Lake, it's about 40 miles South of here, had snow flurries.

Re: Photo Collection
I asked about the Dent on the Queen because like a lot of you I didnt know whether it was a dent or just supposed to look like that, if you could ever call a dent a good one it would be it, it was even painted and looked like it belonged thanks.
Re: Photo Collection
Went back and Youtubed Lakeboat after posting that last night, the dent is there if you are looking for it, but just not obvious. Good camera work to hide it.

I would say you may be right as the dent does appear in a photo dated 1978 in the Namesakes series. In addition it looks like the Seaway Queen retained this dent all the way to its scrap tow. As far as it not being readily apparent in the Lakeboat movie, the indentation we are discussing can be hard to distinguish under certain lighting conditions and angles from which the camera captured the image. If this dent does date back to the 1966 incident, I'm assuming that it may have not been fixed as it was not detrimental to the operation of the vessel and perhaps any insurance proceeds, if any depending upon fault, were used elsewhere. But that is all speculation.

Think I've got photos up until about 2006. So there's a way to go.GuestfromEU wrote:Thanks for the latest update Garbear! I see we are up to late 1992. Hope you're not running out of pictures...I love seeing your material!

Re: Photo Collection
I don't remember noticing the dent in the movie "Lakeboat" filmed sometime around 1999-2000. Wonder if it was fixed by then or just didn't show in any shots.

I definitely remember that dent also. I asked this question during the earliest day of this forum, early 2000s if I recall correctly and don't remember ever getting an answer. There surely must a story behind it.

Re: Photo Collection
Seeing pictures of the Rimouski I've always been surprised that she was never converted to a self unloader by CSL with her little bit extra depth and twin deck stern with a big slow speed diesel .

The mid-80 through the mid-90s were hard on the grain trade. Its interesting as how CSL left the gearless bulker trade only to reenter it in the early 2000s I believe after acquiring the Parrish & Heimbecker and Paterson ships.

Have to see if some of these end up being posted twice. I may have hit "submit" by mistake.
Re: Photo Collection
Post more after a big Lions win. The John J. Boland shots were taken when she was stopped in the Manistee River Channel between the Maple Street and Memorial(U.S.-31) bridges after her stern hit some boats at the marina you can see in the a couple shots. I was on the Memorial Bridge.
