Scuttled or purposely sunk as an artificial reef.

Sad, but all good things must end. This would have been her end if that shipwreck hunter had obtained her in 2011, so at least she had several more good years on the lakes.

There's a credible rumor among Coast Guard Vets that the scrap company that purchased the ex-CGC Bramble at auction in late 2019 is preparing the ship for reefing. Local reporter in Port Huron was trying to get comment from the scrap company in Mobile but apparently has not been successful in doing so. Scrap company management has been very noncommittal in various news stories about future plans, but considering their line of work and zero track record of anything related to historic preservation -- plus the high cost of retrofitting an almost 80-year-old military vessel for modern commercial service -- recycling in some form or another was expected.
