The Nathan S. in question was built in 1951 at Brooklyn by Ira S. Bushey & Sons, Inc., hull number 602, for Red Star Towing & Transportation Company, New York. It is the second Nathan S., the first originally the New York City Department of Sanitation tug Sanita, later Soo Chief, Susan M. Selvick, Nathan S., John A. Perry, Zuccola, Carla Selvick, and now Terry D. The present Nathan S. is the former Donald C. Hannah. The Huntington was sold in 1985 to the Kosnac Floating Derrick Corporation of Staten Island and in 2004 to a couple at Holland, Michigan, who intended to convert it to a live-aboard renamed Spartacus. That fell through and Franz von Riedl added it to his ill-fated Northeastern Maritime Historical Foundation collection at Duluth, renamed again Huntington. Calumet River Fleeting Company bought it for some unknown reason in 2007 and renamed it Nathan S..

Yeah thats a different Nathan S. The one im talking about sits at the Calumet River Fleeting Chicago drydock dock. If you search it on google maps there should be a photo of the pilothouseless Nathan S

Sorry, I probably looked up the wrong tug. The Nathan S. I assume. The Nathan S. that is currently documented was built by Main Iron Works in 1962.

But the Nathan S (Calumet River Fleeting) and the Old Mission (Kindra Lake Towing) both have had their certificate of documentation renewed in 2021, good into 2022. As for the Alice E, I don;t think it has been documented since 2004.
Im honestly surprised they would renew the certificate of a pilothouseless tug

There are 3 tugs resting together in South Chicago and im wondering what their fates are. The tugs are Alice E, Nathan S (1) and Old Mission. Also there is an old hannah tank barge.
