I don't have much experience with wooden model planking but plan to build a wooden ship kit in the near future once I clear up the last few models I have sitting around. About 30 years ago, I built a great lakes freighter kit produced by Carr's Hobby in Duluth. This kit consisted mostly of balsa and provided an excellent representation of a standard 600-foot lake freighter. I used a standard sanding sealer purchased at the local hardware store to finish the kit. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Good luck on your model. Let us know how the build goes!
