Ten years ago, I purchased a Transtar seving platter from Franz Von Reidel. At the time Franz was working as a conductor on the railroad and his girl friend was working as a passenger porter on the Blough. Frantz said he took Neil Armstrong and the other members of the Transtar board of Directors on a tour of the mine and then delivered them to the Blough at the Two Harbors ore dock. The Transtar Board of Directors, including Neil Armstrong, held their meetin on the Blough as she traveled to a lower lakes port. So, you did walk in Neil Armstrong's foot steps.

When I worked on the Blough someone told me Neil Armstrong was taken for a trip as a corporate guest, there may have been some pictures or a plaque on-board. So I use to tell people I had walked where Neil Armstrong had, and it wasn't on the firm ground of Earth.

Yes the Blough is the flag ship of Great Lakes Fleet. She has had many important guests in the past and has the best quarters. In the past additional crew were signed on when guests were aboard.

What about salties and their companies? Surely they are not much different than U.S. and Canadian companies regarding flagships at least! What would any flagships be for saltwater vessel owners and their companies? I read and heard once that Isa was once a flagship for Polsteam and then later was replaced by the newbuild Miedwie. Don't know if that is still true today but, it was written once in a Duluth Port Magazine article. Any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Regardless of how you think companies should choose them, Roger Blough is the flagship.

WJM was the first footer ASC owned.

Paul R Tregurtha, Roger Blough, Walter J McCarthy, Cuyahoga
Isn't the flagship often the newest, oldest, or in some cases the largest in the fleet? The bough just does not fit in with this. The munson and the AAA are older, but smaller, while the Speer and gott are newer and larger. Help?
