Garbear when you were taking these photos 40 plus yrs ago were the guys wondering what you were doing, saying something along the lines of these ships will be around forever blah blah blah lol. anyways great pictures thanks for sharing not looking forward to the end of them.

Found these this morning. I took these photos in Dec. 1971 on the St. Mary's River. Not great photos, but......

Was looking thru some of my old photos again this a.m. Found these two photos I took of the Jackson in Dec. 1971 on the St. Mary's River. Aren't the greatest, but a couple anyway.

I have a postcard of her locking downbound in the Mac Lock when she was a straightdecker. Sorry though as I don't know anything as far as scanning the postcard and sending it into boatnerd and the News or Photo Gallery! The best that I can do at some point in time maybe is to take a picture of the postcard with my digital camera and then try and send it in that way and hope it works out. I'll see what I can do down the road at some point. Also and btw, the picture and postcard was of her as a straightdecker around 1968 or 1969 as you can see they are working on the construction of the Poe Lock at that time.

Picture of Herbert C Jackson on Lake St Claire in 1966. I wasn't much of a photographer..I waited too long to get the whole boat in the photo, but it does show the after end before self-unloader was added.

It's the Montrealais, or to be correct it's the Algoma Montrealais in the photo.

That's not the Jackson. Looks like an Algoma boat. Either the Quebecois or Montrealais.

Guest, the photo that you found is not of the Jackson as it is from either the Algoma Montrealais or Algoma Québécois. I took a close look at the photo and confirmed with 100% accuracy that it is not from the Jackson. Hope that this information has helped you out.

That's the Algoma Montrealais or Algoma Quebecois, not the Jackson.

Ive seen pictures around of her as a straight decker. That photo however appears to be the Algoma Montrealais.

With the Herbert C. Jackson having been built as a straight decker in 1959, then converted to a self-unloader in 1975, you would think there would be several photos of her earlier configuration floating around. But to date, I can't see to find any good photos of her as a straight decker. This photo was found on a Google search, which appears to be the Jackson, but it's pretty low resolution:
