Anyone know or have any information as to when the next group of tugs are scheduled to arrive to tow out the Algolake and Algosteel? By the way, notice I’m still going with their former names and not the ones they have now for their eventual scrap tow! Anyone that has any type of information or news is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Algosteel's Canadian registry was closed on May 11.

I actually thought the Sarnia visit was the briefest of layups, I believe the Algosteel was rafted to the Algowood. I jokingly suggested to the fellow who was my supervisor in the Algosteel's 2016 layup that I would gladly again help clearing out the freezer as shipkeeper. He actually forwarded the email to a gentleman looking after the Algowood layup. That supervisor did answer the Algowood's shipkeeper would also be keeping an eye on the Algosteel for what was an extremely short layup.

I see yesterday on the Port of Montreal’s website to where she has now been renamed Oste in preparation to be towed overseas for scrapping. So I would assume it’s a fair and safe bet to say that with that news now, she is finished and her career here on the lakes/seaway system is done. Sad to see the ending of an era of another classic laker but that is now part of the times unfortunately. So long Algosteel 3 Long and 2 Short and may you have calm seas and fair winds on your trip to the breakers. Thanks for the many memories and salutes you gave as well.

Wasn’t the Algosteel in Sarnia this winter briefly for some survey if I am correct? If so, does anyone recall or know what that survey was mostly about?

According to the Transport Canada website, the Algosteel`s certificate does not expire until May 31, 2020.

Judging by a freshly painted Algosteel in a May 2012 picture on her fleet gallery page here, I wonder if she was already on a 1 year extension of her survey?

I was told by sailors and ACC management alike that the certificate expires sometime in May, 2018. I have also heard from ACC management that extensions on a 5 year certificate are possible, but I do not know how they would go about obtaining one.

With the earlier plans before the ASC ships were bought to run her through 2018, I'm curious if she'll sit until next year just in case she's needed for a few more weeks of service, much like what happened with the Montrealais after her initial retirement.

If I'm reading Montreal website properly VB Hispania is at Section 56 north which is the same dock as Algoma Olympic.

The Maltese flagged tug VB Hispania is in the St. Lawrence and is headed for Montreal and Section 56. She should arrive late Sunday or early Monday. Three vessels are there destined for scrap. Algolake, (now Gola) Algoma Olympic, (now Oma) and Algosteel. Anyone know which ship she'll tow overseas?
