While the US Coast Guard has used hand-me-downs from the US Navy very effectively in the past, there’s no way the USCG would want anything to do with these vessels.

Air draft limit on the Erie Canal between Buffalo and Three-Rivers junction with the Oswego canal is 15'6" due to 2 low fixed bridges so no way.

The newer Freedom class ships built after the USS Little Rock had their issues mostly resolved with modified engines. The ones that came before are much more expensive to replace the engine as it involves cutting through either the hull or the deck which was deemed to expensive to make it worth while. The yard recommended a crew of 90 and the Navy said 40. Technology that was supposed to be available after construction turned out to be a failure (especially the anti-sub warfare package). Another thing is that the ships are already paid for and congress will not allow the Navy to just unilaterally cancel construction on the remaining 3 ships. There's hope that the newer Constellation Class Frigates will be top notch like the Arleigh Burkes due to the lessons learned from the LCS debacle.

Mind you the Freedom class DOES work, they just can't operate at the extreme speeds that the Navy requires nor are their operation packages that were installed at the time of construction were as modular or cost effective as the last 5 ships in the class. These ships could be used by USCG or a foreign navy like Greece with great effect.

It was built at Marinette Wisconsin and is named for that shipyard. LCS-25 is headed for Florida ultimately.

It's the newest littoral combat ship, USS Marinette, from....Marinette.

That is the LCS Marinette, made in Marinette. It was formally commissioned last month and is heading to its home port of Mayport, Florida. The Navy has decided it does not want the LCS Freedom class. So it will likely have a short service life before being put in the reserve fleet.

If you're up for a guess, possibly USS Marinette (LCS-25). She was commissioned on September 16th in Menominee, Michigan.

I don't know what the norm is for AIS naming conventions on USN vessels, but perhaps this generic name was what she carried in her AIS during her sea trials and the crew just hasn't updated it with her official name now that she's commissioned and officially a US Navy warship?
