Strong Bridge: that poor old bridge has been hit many times by ships. The USCGC Mackinaw WAGB 83 hit it in 1988 when we were towing one of the 180's to the ship yard. Put a nice sized hole right in the middle of the 'C' in coast, Starboard side. There was a train on the bridge ahead of us and we drifted backwards into the pillings. The river current through their is very squirrelly. If memory serves we punctured one of the trim tanks.

I see nothing in those pics about hitting a bridge.

That must of been the good old Conrail Bridge. We hit it in 1981 The last thing I seen was the bridge tender heading for land.

The only ship scheduled, today, at the upriver Toledo grain docks is the historic bulker Gordan C. Leitch. The last ship to leave the Toledo grain docks is the saltie Bright Laker. Your report for a ship in trouble is new to all of us. Rain in Toledo has been over an inch in the last 24 hours. One inch of rain at this upriver location isn't good for any shipping.

Just heard tonight that a laker leaving Andersons with grain broke free of her tug and struck the railroad bridge. This happened in the last couple of days. Anyone have any further info?
