The winds have been howling up here on the Lake Ontario north shore west of Toronto. Primarily they’ve been all over the north and northwest sector of the compass card.
This has my attention and some of you who follow the AIS maps daily may have noticed that CSL Tadoussac has now been on the hook loaded in Lake Ontario for what will soon be 72 hours.
At Clarkson are 2 piers. One for the Suncor lube product plant; the other for the cement plant.The Tadoussac does a limestone run for the cement plant (used to be Holcim. Not sure who runs it now). The cement plant is trying to build a winter stock pile. Tadoussac has been making twice weekly trips from the quarry near Picton ON to Clarkson all Fall. Both docks are wide open to wind and waves. This past month they’ve had both. This is the second successive trip where Tadoussac has had to anchor offshore. Marine weather sites have shown moderate gale to just shy of full on gale force winds N, NW, and NNW.
L Superior has always been my go-to weather comparison site when things are looking rough. About 1.5 -2 weeks ago they had a blow (last few nights halve been wild too) with all kinds of vessels ( 12 or so )stopped just outside the Soo...
