Made one attempt to do a scratch build about 2.5 decades ago with moderate success. Dedication and perseverance are basic necessessities to modelling. Then you have to build in a persons knowledge and appreciation of the ship or subject matter. Then there is technical, hands-on capabilities...Modelling is demanding pastime! It requires commitment, technical capability, money, and time!
