She was a classic 600 footer. 18 telescoping hatches and I enjoyed going down in her engine room and watch her triple recip steam engine and coal fired stokers.

Jon Paul, I was on her 6 months 1973, wiper-fireman-oiler. Chief was Jerry Zimmer.

I noticed that too having worked as a deeckhand on the Mather shown in the photo. She was a good boat to work until laying up in Ashtabula after being sold Canadian in '75

In todays Great Lakes History section (1981 Samuel Mather) the image that shows her underway is actually ILSSCo older Samuel Mather built 1926, the renamed vessel within the story was actually a Maritime Class vessel, with its name being changed a few times. Also hoping the Staff and contributors on this great site enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving.
