They had attempted to come into Superior on morning of May 4, but the wind and current was too strong. While they waited at anchor, the Stewart J. Cort leapfrogged them and loaded. Once the Cort was finished and departed, the Leitch came in to load. She had been at about 28-29 hours by the time she came in.

Is the John D. Leitch having some type of mechanical or scheduling issues? I noticed that it recently sat off of Superior for a few days and then continued on to its AIS destination of Hamilton. I thought at first it was waiting for the Burlington ore dock to open up but I believe it may have already been loaded as a few other ships seem to come and go over that period of time while the Leitch remained anchored in Lake Superior. It passed down at the Soo Locks on May 7, 2026. Today (May 8, 2026) it is downbound in Lake Huron just north of Port Austin moving at only 4.4 knots and on a course of 114 degrees which is an easterly heading rather than south almost as if it were heading to Goderich.
