The West Shore Pipeline Company ran a refined-product pipeline from Milwaukee to Green Bay until 2016. It was built in 1961 and they permanently shut it down north of Granville (near Milwaukee) in 2016 due to concern about its condition and some previous leaks. Right after it shut down, much of the product received in Green Bay was coming via truck, But I haven't read anything recently as to the amount of trucks (or possibly rail cars) running in comparison to what is shipped via waterborne transportation.

US Venture owns the terminals in Green Bay and Cheboygan so they typically supply their Cheboygan terminal with product from Green Bay. The port of Green Bay closes in the winter making shipping from Sarnia or somewhere else a necessity during those months. The barge Margaret is not ice capable which is why Algoma (or last winter, the salty Baltic) takes over the loads at that time.

While on the topic of northern Michigan ports, where does the Cheboygan oil terminal get product from? Looking at the transit logs it appears they get oil from Sarina via Algoma in the winter and Green Bay via Albert/Margaret in the summer. I know Algoma also sends boats to Green Bay. Is it being shipped to GB and then barged to Cheboygan?

I assume you mean the coal dock at the cement plant. The deliveries are actually petcoke, all from South Chicago or Superior, used to fire their kilns. The cement plants in Bath, Bowmanville, and Charlevoix all similarly receive coal or petcoke cargoes. Alpena usually receives at least two petcoke deliveries per month during the main shipping season.

Surprised to find a coal dock in Alpena. How many boats does this dock get in a given year? I assume it's out of Duluth?
