Grand Haven harbor

by kazoonerd » September 8, 2010, 1:00 am

Visited Grand Haven harbor at 1900-2020 hrs on Tuesday. The waves were spectacular. They were breaking whitewater above the pierhead lighthouse. A 47 foot Coast Guard response boat was out for training and when they cut the engine speed in the channel, the boat got pushed backwards (upriver) at a pretty good clip. The boat was actually tossed around pretty hard and I'm sure that the Coasties involved got some good training in under rough sea conditions. Waves appeared to be 6-10 feet in the lake with large swells in the channel. Gale force winds directly out of the west. Surfers were having a great time. Seems like most of the lakeboats were hugging the east side of the Lake for good reason.
