Amherst Islander went through Iroquois Lock this morning down bound to Montreal and the sea.

Any update on the Amherst Islander? She doesn't appear to have have AIS. The rumor was the steering dies when hot. Not sure what that has for a steering gear, some systems have a manual bypass mode to give the system, and wheelsman, a rest when not manuvering. Tough to keep some of them running straight without constantly moving the wheel back and forth, Wolfe Islander II was like that.

Depending on water levels, overhead clearances on both inland routes are in the 19-20 foot range. I suspect she is tall enough that it would require removing the pilot house and perhaps the cabins to get below 19 ft air draft.

I assume the main deck is watertight. Just keep the scuppers clean and avoid heavy weather. And hopefully they will have no more problems with the steering gear.

I'm curious.Why are they going north down the St lawrence then the north atlantic in november december.Instead of the Chicago mississippi route.Or the Erie barge canal from Oswego to New york.

Sorry to hear about their steering problems. I think I would have run her into Kingston or try and get in touch with one of the ex-engineers that used to be on her.

Amherst Islander is safely moored in Clayton, NY.

While passing Clayton, the steering failed in high winds and a fair amount of ship traffic. Luckily, the wind blew the vessel clear of the channel. Assisted by crew from Abaco Marine Towing, LLC, the anchor was let go just in time to prevent the vessel from grounding. Abaco Marine then towed the vessel in to Clayton and arranged for Customs and Immigration to clear the vessel and crew.

I'm sending my best mechanic/troubleshooter over there this am to see if we can get the Amherst Islander back underway to Roatan.

any updates as to where this boat is now

i heard the coastguard gave the final inspection while in port dover before they could leave

Are they going out in the ocean with the Amherst Islander ? Is that wood around the pilot house to close up open areas of the ferry? Do they have to pass a coast guard inspection ?

Currently tied up at the extreme south end of the approach wall at lock seven has been there for a couple days, waiting on repairs to the steering gear. they hope to depart tomorrow november 8th

any updates on the amhurst islander since saturday nov 3 when she was tied at lock 8 she left port dover last tuesday or wednesday.heading for honduras/

She was still tied up along the west wall, above lock 8 this morning about 10:45.

does anyone know which route the amhurst islander would likely take to honduras

Amherst Islander left Port Dover and arrived Welland Canal on Wednesday afternoon around 1700.

the amhurst islander ferry has been in port dover for a few years but it has been sold and is now on its way to honduras.It left port dover on wednesday or thursday of this week and we were told the trip would take a month to complete.here,s hoping the crew has a safe voyage,don,t know where it would be right now on its trip
