On April 11, 1970 she suffered severe ice damage to her bow, punching three large holes below the waterline in Whitefish Bay, Lake Superior. She also suffered a hairline crack to the hull. The vessel was forced to shift her cargo from her forward hold to the after holds with the self-unloading equipment to keep from sinking.
Not quite dumping cargo, but close.
