Befor Algosteel arrival at sec 56, she unloaded slag at the Cote wharf arriving at 1215 Sunday, departed the Cote wharf at 2230, secured at sec 56 at 0305 Monday a m.

It's arrived at sec. 56 in Montreal for final layup.

Entering the Welland Canal at Port Colborne now, downbound on her final trip.

Algosteel is on Lake Ontario, 113.0 n miles east of the Port Weller Piers, Algoeast 2 n miles behind Algosteel.

As Algoma's press release stated, these are replacing existing vessels. Therefore, I'll guess they're going to replace one vessel for each one. Also keep in mind that they've recently retired Algoisle, Algontario, Algonorth, and Agawa Canyon. They may have been referencing some of those vessels as well, though since all we have to go off of are a few words in a press release it's pretty much merely a discussion of semantic nuance at this point.

Algoway and Algorail were discussed earlier this year as possible candidates for retirement as well. Tim S. Dool had major hull/steel replacement done in the late 1990s so she likely got at least a few more years in her.

The widening of the Algoville (Now the Tim S. Dool) in 1996-1997 basically means she's not even 15 years old now in regards to things like the ballast tanks and such. It's all new or renewed. And the expensive repowering project in 2007 shows just what they think of her and the projected future she has with their fleet.

Even though she was launched all the way back in 1967, the important components of her hull and machinery are very young and she's probably just about the most efficient member of the Algoma's fleet. Most any ship in Algoma's fleet is in worst shape then the Dool is these days and I think she'll outlast most of her current fleetmates.

Perhaps she'll even outlive some of the youngest members of the fleet like the Captain Henry Jackman if lifting of the import duty basically kills off major work on older vessels and forebody replacement projects, in favor of 100% new construction at cheap overseas shipyards.

Algosteel crew discovered a crack on the deck, exactly how long and where the damage is located is unknown at the moment. The vessel reported the find to the Seaway, the boat was halted at Snell lock for inspection. Upon inspection Algosteel was cleared to proceed up bound. Algosteel was heading to Nanticoke to load slag for Cote St Catherines wharf, then proceed to the Port of Montreal's grim reaper sec 56.

Algosteel at CIP 2 St Lawrence Seaway. Algosteel will load at Nanticoke, and head right back down the Seaway. Unload at Cote Ste Catherines and then proceed to sec 56, to await the grim reaper.

Fog has delayed shipping again this morning, shipping has started to move, CSL Niagara below the Cote lock, Catherine Desgagnes entering Cote lock down bound, William J Moore below St Lambert lock, secured behind is the CSL Laurentien, at anchor the Algosteel, and the John B Aird, all up bound. This will be the order of turn. Shipping has been suspended above the Cote lock to Valleyfied, Quebec, due to fog.

Algosteel at Vickers anchorage, abeam elevator 4 Montreal this morning.

Algosteel's final trip will be to Nanticoke to load.

Algosteel, apparently completed unloading, now downbound in the Seaway to turn, currently making 1.6 kts and meeting the upbound CSL Niagara, the latter is headed for Toledo, with ore from Sept Isles.

Algosteel, after complete uldg at the Cote wharf, head to Montreal turn and head back up the Seaway.

She will head for Montreal and layup after unloading?

Today (Wednesday 12/15) at Port Huron witnessed the Algosteel making the final run to Quebec at 13:15. Vantage Pointe person on duty gave her a fitting farwell on the PA.
