The ships only hug the shore when its pretty bad out there. So you won't see any ships. You might once in a great while see the St. Marys Challenger, St. Marys Conquest, Alpena or a lafarge barge running up to upper Wisconsin. The coal is railed into the power plant witch is a real pain. There was talk about putting in a pier and a hopper but it fell through because of money and permits. -Peter

There isn't enough water in Sheboygan Harbor for commercial vessels, and as fast as the EPA is closing coal fired plants there will never be coal delivered there by water again. Most vessels are quite a ways off Sheboygan when transiting the lake, even those running between Escanaba and Indiana Harbor. You'd be hard pressed to identify ships off Rawley Point, north of Two Rivers, they are that far off the Wisconsin shore.

was staying at the blue harbor resort in sheboygan,wi. for 4 days and was hoping to see a few freighters passing by on the lake. i didnt see one boat. do they just get within eyerange when things kick up on the lake or did i just have bad luck? also does the power plant receive all their coal by rail . seems it would be easier to build a hopper to unload in to and piling by the plant. thanks for all responses!!
