It was not the Calumet that you saw as they are still laid up in Ashtabula, Ohio according to the Marine Traffic website since about late January. You might have seen maybe an Algoma vessel unloading salt in Detroit? The one you probably saw may have been the Algoma Niagara as she delivered salt to Detroit recently from Goderich. The Algoma Niagara has sort of a deep dark blue hull color although I say at times, that blue color looks black to me! Anyway, Algoma Niagara is a Seaway-Max Self-Unloading vessel at 740 X 78 and built in China in 2017. She is one of 12 ships in Algoma’s Equinox-Class series which began in 2012 with their first ship Algoma Equinox itself which began service in 2013. The Algoma Niagara has an aft mounted self-unloader. Hope this helps out.
